Sinusitis

Sinuses are four paired air filled spaces behind cheekbone and forehead that communicate with the nose. Normally the sinuses are filled with air, but when infected, fluid gets accumulated. An infection in the nose and upper respiratory tract can spread to the sinuses. People with nasal allergies, nasal polyps, asthma and abnormal nasal structures are more prone to sinusitis.

Sinusitis

Sinuses can get acutely infected during an episode of cold or can remain chronically infected due to repeated colds or non-clearance of infection. Symptoms of sinusitis are blocked nose, heaviness and pain in face along with a foul post nasal discharge, and chronic cough. Colds and sinusitis are a leading cause of reduced efficiency and absenteeism.
