Piles or Hemorrhoids

Piles are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum similar to varicose veins in legs. The main cause for piles are chronic increased pressure in the lower rectum which cause veins to stretch. Any conditions which cause increase in abdominal pressure like chronic constipation, chronic cough, pregnancy and heavy weight lifting are reasons to develop piles. Patients of liver cirrhosis can also get piles.

Sinusitis

Symptoms of hemorrhoids depends on its type. Internal hemorrhoids usually present with painless bleeding per rectum with stool, where as external piles present as oozing and itching at anal region and mass at the anus with bleeding with stool. Piles become painful when they develop complications like thrombosis (clot within the piles) or strangulation (when blood supply to piles is cut off). In some patients piles become permanently prolapsed. Surgery is usually indicated when they develop complications.
